Privacy
Last updated 15 October 2026
Your writing is yours. It stays on your device, and in your own Dropbox or Google Drive if you turn on sync. It never goes to our servers.
This policy covers the Mythforge apps (web, desktop and phone) and this website. It says what little we do learn about you, why, and for how long. The Privacy guide explains the same in the app's own terms, with how to turn reports off.
Who is responsible
Fairsoft Ltd is the data controller. Write to hello@fairsoft.co.uk with any question about your data.
Your writing
- Your library is kept on your device: in the browser, in a folder you choose, or in the app's files. We can't see it.
- With sync on, it's also kept in your own Dropbox or Google Drive. It goes straight from your device to that service, under your account with them, and doesn't pass through us. Mythforge can only reach its own folder there.
Your account
To sign in and to know what you've bought, we keep:
- your email address, and your name if you give it to us;
- what your account holds: beta access, a licence, a gift, and when each was granted or taken back;
- your free trial: when it started, how many days of use it has counted, and the latest date counted (not what you did that day);
- the devices you're signed in on, each as a type such as "iPhone" or "Mac" with when it was last used, so you can sign out of them;
- a record of changes made to your account, such as access granted, for security.
Sign-in codes are emailed to you and kept only as a scrambled hash, for 10 minutes. We use this information to run your account and provide what you've paid for (our contract with you). We keep it while you have an account; a device you don't use for 400 days is signed out. Ask us to delete your account and we will, except for anything the law requires us to keep, such as records of sales.
Buying a licence
Purchases go through Paddle, our reseller, which collects your payment details, address and tax information and is responsible for them: see Paddle's privacy policy. Paddle tells us your email address, what you bought and an order reference, so we can add the licence to your account. We never see your card details.
Usage and error reports
To fix bugs and keep Mythforge fast, the apps can send anonymous reports: errors and warnings, which screens are used (by kind, such as "a scene", never by address, since addresses contain your titles), how fast pages load, the app version and your browser and system type. They never include your writing, your titles, your email address, cookies, or anything that identifies you or your device, and can't be linked back to you. We send them in our legitimate interest in a working app; turn them off in Settings → Privacy, and they start off if your browser sends Global Privacy Control. They're kept for a short time in our hosting provider's logs.
This website
- No cookies. We count page views, where visitors came from and how fast pages load with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies or identifiers and is off if your browser sends Global Privacy Control.
- The support form turns your message into an issue in Mythforge's public project on GitHub, so don't include anything private. If you leave an email address so we can reply, it's added to the issue too. A Cloudflare Turnstile check stops spam.
- If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data or share it for advertising. These services handle it for us, only to do their job:
- Cloudflare: hosts the apps and this website and stores the account database.
- Amazon Web Services (SES): sends sign-in emails.
- Google (Gmail): sends invitations.
- Paddle: sells licences, as above.
- GitHub: holds messages sent through the support form.
Some of them process data outside the UK, such as in the United States; where they do, it's protected by the safeguards UK law requires.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, take a copy of it, or object to how we use it. Write to us and we'll answer within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Children
Mythforge isn't meant for children under 13.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we'll update this page first, and change the date at the top.
