What stays on your device, what Mythforge reports, and how to turn reports off.

Your writing is yours. No server of Mythforge's stores your library. Your words stay on your device, and in Dropbox or Google Drive if you turn on sync. This guide explains the little that does leave your device, and how to turn it off.

Your writing

  • Your library is kept on your device: in the browser, in a folder you choose, or in the iPhone app's files. See Where your writing lives.
  • With sync on, it's also kept in your own Dropbox or Google Drive. It goes straight from your device to the service and doesn't pass through Mythforge.
  • Mythforge only sees its own corner of each service: the Apps › Mythforge folder in Dropbox, and in Google Drive only the files it created, in a folder called Mythforge.
  • Lore pictures are copied without hidden photo details, such as where a photo was taken.

Your account

During the private beta, the web app asks you to sign in with a code. Your account is your email address and what you have access to (the beta now, and later what you've bought). It never holds your writing. See Your account and signing in.

Usage and error reports

To find bugs and keep Mythforge fast, the app can send anonymous reports:

  • errors and warnings, so problems can be fixed,
  • which screens are used,
  • how quickly pages load.

What they never include:

  • your writing, or the names of your worlds, books, chapters, scenes or lore,
  • cookies, or anything else that identifies you or your device.

Screens are reported by their kind, such as "a scene", never by their address, because addresses contain your titles. Error messages have anything that looks like a name, an email address or a sign-in code taken out before they're sent.

Turn reports off

Open Settings → Privacy and set Usage and error reports to Off. Mythforge remembers this on each device.

If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, reports start off, and stay off unless you turn them on.

Feedback

Settings → About → Send feedback opens a form on this website for reporting a problem or suggesting an idea. Your message becomes an issue in Mythforge's project on GitHub, where others can read it, so don't include anything private. The same goes for an email address: if you leave one so we can reply, it's added to the issue too.
