Themes and colour palettes

Light, dark or Auto, five colour palettes, and the font and size you write in.

Mythforge can be light or dark, in one of twelve colour palettes, and set your writing in the font and size you like to read. All of it lives in Settings, applies at once, and is remembered on each device, so your phone can be dark and your laptop light.

Light, dark or Auto

Open Settings → Appearance and pick a Theme:

  • Auto follows your device's light or dark setting, so Mythforge turns dark with your phone at night. It's the default.
  • Light and Dark stay as they are whatever the device does.

Colour palettes

Under Colours, choose the palette that suits you. Each one comes in a light and a dark version, and the theme you chose decides which you see. The swatch beside each name shows its background, its accent colour and its softer text colour.

Palette Feel
Mythforge Ink and violet. The default.
Parchment Sepia and oxblood.
Fjord Slate and glacier blue.
Ember Hearth and rust.
Dusk Plum twilight.
Synthwave Hot pink and teal neon.
Vaporwave Lavender, bubblegum and baby blue.
Terminal Green phosphor on black, in a monospace font.
Amber An old amber monitor, in a monospace font.
Arcade Electric blue and coin-op yellow.
Abyss The deep sea, glowing cyan.
Gothic Black velvet and blood red.

The first five are quiet; the rest are loud, and their dark versions give cards a faint neon glow. A palette changes the surfaces, text and accent colour (Terminal and Amber change the font too). The colours that mean something stay put in every palette: lore categories, scene statuses and the like, so a character is the same colour wherever you meet them.

Here is the same scene in four of them:

Settings shows your theme and palette in a line under Appearance, such as "Theme: Dark · Fjord". On a phone or tablet, the browser's own bar (the address bar and status bar) takes on the colour of the screen too.

Typography

Settings → Typography sets how your scene and notes editors set your text, with a preview at the top that updates as you choose. It applies to this device.

Setting Choices
Font Serif, Sans or Mono
Size S, M, L or XL
Line spacing Tight, Normal or Airy
Paragraphs The space between paragraphs: None, S, M or L
Indent A switch for indenting each paragraph's first line, as printed fiction does

Reset to defaults appears once you've changed anything. The other writing settings, such as daily goals, toolbars, sprints and focus, are under Settings → Writing; see The editor.

Haptics

In the iPhone app, Settings → Haptics sets how strongly each kind of tap is felt: Navigation (links, tabs and Back), Buttons, Mentions, Choices, Gestures and Results (creating and deleting). Each can be Off, Subtle, Light, Medium or Strong, and Results can be Off or On. Choosing a strength plays it so you can feel the difference. Haptics also follow your iPhone's System Haptics setting. The Haptics screen only appears where it can play, so you won't see it in a browser.
