Relationships

Record how lore entries are connected: family, allegiances, rulers, rivals and your own kinds, and see them all as a graph.

Mentions tell you two lore entries are connected. Relationships say how: Kaela is the child of Queen Isveth, Brother Oren is a member of the Cinder Choir, the Choir is located in Emberfall. Add one on either entry and both pages show it.

Add a relationship

  1. Open a lore entry and, under Relationships, choose Add.
  2. Pick how they relate, such as Member of.
  3. Search for the other entry and select it.
  4. Optionally add a Note, such as adoptive or until the war, then save.

The other entry shows the same relationship from its side. Add "Child of Queen Isveth" on Kaela's page, and Isveth's page shows "Parent of Kaela". There's no need to add it twice.

Your own kinds

Need something your world invented, like an oath or a bond? While adding a relationship, under Your kinds, choose New kind:

  • Label: how it reads from this side, such as Sworn to.
  • From the other side (optional): how it reads from the other entry, such as Sworn by. Leave it empty for a relationship that reads the same both ways, like Rival of.

Your kinds belong to the world, so they're offered on every entry in it. Choose Edit beside Your kinds to rename one, or Delete kind to remove it. Deleting a kind also removes every relationship that uses it, and Mythforge tells you how many first.

See, change and remove relationships

An entry's Relationships are grouped by kind, with each related entry's picture and your note. Select a relationship to open the other entry, or its … button to change it:

Kaela's relationships, notes and where she's mentioned
  • select how they relate, or the other entry, to change it,
  • edit the note,
  • Remove relationship to delete it from both pages.

See them all as a graph

The Graph shows the whole lorebook at once: each entry is a dot in its category's colour, and lines join related entries, labelled with how they relate. An arrow points from one side to the other for relationships that read differently each way, such as Parent of.

  • Open it from the Lorebook with the Graph button at the top, or from an entry with Show in graph under Relationships.
  • Drag to move around, pinch or scroll to zoom, and drag a dot to move it. The +, − and Fit to screen buttons in the corner do the same.
  • Select an entry to light it up with its neighbours and see a card with its relationships. Open entry opens its page; Focus shows just that entry and its neighbours, 1 step or 2 steps out. Show all brings the rest back.
  • Narrow it with All categories and All tags, or type in Find an entry… to jump to one.
  • Turn on Mentions to add dashed lines between entries that mention each other in their summary, details or notes.
  • List says the same in words: each entry with what it's connected to.
The graph focused on one character, two steps out, with her card open
Wren Albry and everything within two steps of her; the card lists her relationships

The graph remembers which entry it's focused on and how many steps out, so going back to it, reloading, or sharing its address shows the same view.

On a computer, the graph opens as a tab like any other page, so you can keep it beside an entry you're editing. Show in graph from another entry refocuses that tab rather than opening a second graph.

Parent of, Spouse of and Sibling of also draw your world's family trees: see Chronicler.

Relationships also show when you select a mention while writing, so you can check who's who without leaving the scene.

If you delete an entry, its relationships are removed from the other entries too. They come back if you restore it from Recently deleted.
